Locate your outside spigot: Find the outdoor hose faucet closest to where your water meter enters your property.

Remove attachments: Take off any hoses, spray nozzles, or water filters.

 Run it on cold: Turn the cold water on all the way.

Watch the water: Let it run for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the water runs completely clear.

Use the bathtub first: Go inside and turn on the cold-water faucet in your bathtub. (Bathtub faucets allow a large volume of water to flow quickly).

Move to other sinks: Turn on the cold-water faucets in your kitchen and bathroom sinks.

Let them run: Leave them running for 1 to 2 minutes until the water is completely clear and no longer sputters.

Turn them off: Turn off the faucets in the opposite order you turned them on (start with the sinks, end with the bathtub).

Toilets: Flush all toilets in the house once or twice.

Ice makers: If you have an automatic ice maker, dumb the first two batches of ice made after the repair.

Water filters: If you have a refrigerator filter or a Brita pitcher, you may want to cycle a few cups of water through them. (If you experienced heavy sediment, consider replacing the filter cartridge).
